Value and governance of high-speed railway

Xiaoyan LIN, Zehua ZHANG, Meng WANG

Frontiers of Engineering Management 2017, Volume 4, Issue 4,   Pages 463-482 doi: 10.15302/J-FEM-2017054

Abstract: This paper considers multiple perspectives to explore the concept of high-speed railway (HSR), rationally abstract its value formation mechanism, and quantitatively measure its actual performance. This paper analyzes the governance potential of major countries in the high-speed railway value chain and studies the feasible ways and development strategies to enhance the high-speed railway governance in China. Findings of this paper are as follows. First, the government, as the early manager of high-speed railway governance, has given way to Siemens and other integrated enterprises. Second, the high-speed railway standard output has become the core competitiveness that embodies high-speed railway. Third, the global high-speed railway market presents a hierarchical high-speed railway governance model and changes to a modular approach to governance.

Export Quality Upgrading of Manufacturing Sector in Developing Countries—Based on the Data of China, India, and Brazil

Liu Weili,Zheng Qiming and Zhang Han

Strategic Study of CAE 2015, Volume 17, Issue 7,   Pages 133-132

Abstract:

Based on the Hallak Product Quality model, we construct an empirical product quality model adopting unit value, distance between countries, income per capita. This research measures Chinese, Indian and Brazilian manufacturing quality of HS6 products that export to the U.S., from 2003 to 2013. And we put forward policy recommendations to improve China’s product quality upgrading ability in the international market.

Upgrade of three municipal wastewater treatment lagoons using a high surface area media

John WANG, Peng JIN, Paul L. BISHOP, Fuzhi LI

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2012, Volume 6, Issue 2,   Pages 288-293 doi: 10.1007/s11783-011-0280-z

Abstract: Lagoon-based municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are facing difficulties meeting the needs of rapid population growth as well as the more stringent requirements of discharge permits. Three municipal WWTPs were modified using a high surface area media with upgraded fine-bubble aeration systems. Performance data collected showed very promising results in terms of five-day biochemical oxygen demand (BOD ), ammonia (NH ) and total suspended solids (TSS) removal. Two-year average ammonia effluents were 4.1 mg·L for Columbia WWTP, 4 mg·L for Larchmont WWTP and 2.1 mg·L for Laurelville WWTP, respectively. Two- year average BOD effluents were 6.8, 4.9 and 2.7 mg·L , and TSS effluents were 15.0, 9.6 and 7.5 mg·L . The systems also showed low fecal coliform (FC) levels in their effluents.

Development of Made in China Brand: Problems, Causes and Upgrade Strategies

Guo Zheng,Lin Zhongqin,Deng Ji and Wang Jinyu

Strategic Study of CAE 2015, Volume 17, Issue 7,   Pages 63-62

Abstract:

The lack of brands is one significant sign of Chinese-made goods known as large but not strong, and it is an important reason that Chinese products are very difficult to enter the international high-end market. The change from “Chinese products”to “Chinese brand”is an inevitable way for transformation and upgrading of China Manufacturing. Through a variety of research methods including literature reviews, expert interviews, surveys, case studies, etc., this paper describes the overall situation and problems of Chinese brand development and analyzes the causes from the perspectives of macro factors, business factors, product/service quality factors and the medium factors. According to the different roles played by the government and the enterprises in Chinese manufacturing brand development, this paper brings out strategic suggestions, respectively.

Path and Countermeasures of Optimizing and Upgrading Livelihood Equipment in China

Gu Yishana, Wu Haihua, Zhu Xiaoguang, Yang Haipeng, Qin Yongqing

Strategic Study of CAE 2020, Volume 22, Issue 2,   Pages 22-28 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2020.02.004

Abstract:

Livelihood equipment is an important part of high-end equipment. It plays an important role in the development of national economy. China’s livelihood equipment lags behind the international advanced level in terms of international competitiveness and comprehensive level. The outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) further exposed the serious shortcomings in China’s livelihood equipment concerning medical treatment, food, textile, and the like, as well as the urgent need for optimization and upgrading of the industry. In this paper, livelihood equipment regarding agriculture, food, textile, and medical treatment are studied, which are related to the lifeblood of the national economy. Their development status is reviewed, and the problems and shortcomings of China’s livelihood equipment are proposed. The research suggests that intelligent manufacturing should be the major development direction of the livelihood equipment. Specifically, equipment with digital, networked, and intelligent functions should be developed; key components and industrial software should be researched; digital, networked, and intelligent transformation and upgrading of livelihood equipment enterprises should be promoted; and integration with the service industry should be deepened. To ensure and promote the optimization and upgrading of the livelihood equipment in China, the state should make overall plans for supporting policies regarding the livelihood equipment, conduct large-scale technological transformation, build a public platform for technologicalinnovation services for the industry, and strengthen the development and application of domestic equipment and industrial software.

Meng Liu, Yan Jianlin, Dong Jingchen, Wei Sha , Li Ruiqi , Zang Jiyuan , Zhou Yuan

Strategic Study of CAE 2018, Volume 20, Issue 4,   Pages 23-28 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2018.04.005

Abstract:

Intelligent manufacturing is an evolving system that covers theories, methods, technologies, and application involved in the whole life cycle of products, manufacturing, and services. Considering the new technologies, concepts, and models emerging in the field of intelligent manufacturing, a system structure for intelligent manufacturing needs to be summarized and proposed to well guide its implementation. This paper constructs the system structure of China's intelligent manufacturing from three dimensions, i.e., a value dimension, a technical dimension, and an organization dimension, and makes a horizontal comparison with the system architectures related to intelligent manufacturing in the United States, Germany, and Japan. The technical dimension reflects that China’s intelligent manufacturing should focus on the integration of industrialization and informatization, the value dimension reflects that the main body of China's intelligent manufacturing is manufacturing activities, and the organization dimension emphasizes that China's intelligent manufacturing should be people-oriented.
